History

OVERCOMERS was established in 1998 and formally organized in 2015 by Sharon Y. Harley, a compassionate leader who has spent decades committed to serving those in need. Her passion for helping others began in the 1990s when she provided shelter and support for homeless families and domestic violence survivors, realizing that true restoration requires more than temporary relief—it requires preparation for long-term success. This deep-seated commitment has driven the creation of OVERCOMERS as a haven for those seeking refuge and a path to recovery.
Overview
OVERCOMERS, 1 John 5:5, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded by Sharon Y. Harley in 1998, initially as a personal mission to help homeless families and survivors of domestic violence. Established as a formal entity in 2015, the organization operates under the foundation of faith and the scripture 1 John 5:4-5, which speaks to the power of overcoming adversity through faith in God. ALL are welcome regardless of their belief.
Our mission is to provide safe, stable housing and comprehensive support services to individuals facing homelessness, domestic violence, our veterans, and other related adversities. We empower our residents to overcome their challenges and re-enter society as
successful, self-sufficient citizens.
Burchie Leota Harley, mother to Evangelist Harley, was a pioneer and woman of God who loved people and
never turned anyone away, she treated everyone the same as she did her family. 1929-2004. And her son Edmond's determination and spirit to LIVE in spite of the odds encouraging to all who meets him..

OVERCOMERS ~ Hope Care Packages
The Overcomers HOPE Care Packages Project seeks to provide care packages to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, including survivors of domestic violence. This project utilizes a street outreach approach to provide basic necessities (socks, blankets, etc.) and personal hygiene items to improve their quality of life. This project addresses the need to provide items that are crucial for daily survival and maintaining personal health for those experiencing homelessness.
The overarching goals of the Overcomers ~ HOPE Care Packages Project are: 1) Prevent and reduce illnesses to promote better overall health, 2) reduce the risk of hypothermia and other cold-related health issues, and 3) improve mental well-being, morale, and build resilience, enabling them to cope better with life challenges and setbacks. These goals align with many Cities U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Strategic Framework to support and meet the specific needs of people who are homeless.
Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide street outreach to identify common areas where homeless individuals congregate such as parks, under bridges, encampments, etc. to deliver the care packages that will include items such as socks, gloves, scarves, blankets depending on the season. (most requested items), snacks, and other personal hygiene items. Street outreach extends beyond distributing care packages but allows our team to connect and build trust with each individual we encounter. We inform and link them to additional support services and programs in the community to help them achieve maximum self-sufficiency.
